SHARED INTEREST GROUPS

Shared Interest Groups

The basic purpose of NYSAE's Shared Interest Group Program is to form and maintain forums for open, regular communication among professionals sharing an interest in a particular area of the association management field. NYSAE facilitates the creation and continuation of Groups which, in turn, have as their primary intent the easing of interactive communication and other professional activities, around a particular topic of shared interest to the members of the shared interest groups.

Shared interest groups may be proposed and focused around any professional aspect of association management, professional categories or concerns. The name of each shared interest group designates its focal issue. Groups are created and dissolved as particular interests increase or decrease in importance to the membership of the association. The Shared Interest Group Program is designed to be flexible, and thereby quickly responsive to new, emerging developments in the field.

Shared Interest Groups are offered FREE to Members. Non Members are permitted to attend the first 2 Technology SIGs on a complimentary basis, however, are required to become a member of NYSAE in order to continue their participation in the SIG program.

Establishment Procedures

The following is required of the NYSAE SIGs:

  1. Appoint a chair and vice chair. The function of the chairs is to keep records of the SIG meetings and provide correspondence to their members as needed. Please remember: NYSAE is not providing financial support, postage, mailing services, staff services, or assistance with locations for SIG meetings. This is the responsibility of the SIG chairs. Hotels are not to be utilized for SIG meetings as this may present a conflict with NYSAE's regular programming. Scheduled in advance, the SIG's are welcome to use the NYSAE conference room for their meetings.

  2. Please keep NYSAE advised of your activities. Please copy NYSAE on meeting notices, reports, etc., we would be happy to receive them.

  3. Specific questions regarding SIG operations should be directed to NYSAE, at (212)206-8230.

  4. When SIG's are approved for inclusion as a permanent resource for members within NYSAE they require at least 25 members. However, during the first year of the formation of the SIG only 10 other members who show an interest in organizing a SIG and who make a commitment to support it are required.

  5. Once chairs and vice chairs have been selected, NYSAE must be provided with those persons names, the organization they represent, and telephone numbers. A general list of participants throughout the SIG operation with organization names and telephone numbers is also necessary.

 Operational Procedures

Rules for SIG operation are as follows:

  1. The SIG's focus must support the Mission Statement of NYSAE.

  2. The SIG's focus must be on a functional area of association management.

  3. The SIG's focus cannot overlap with any long-range plans, strategy or any other NYSAE activity.

The SIG's within NYSAE "run themselves." The success of this program and its future depend on the SIG participants. Remember that you have the support of NYSAE.
